2014-2015 Snooker Season

The new snooker season is underway, and the Club would like to welcome and thank new players to the snooker season. We wish Orrin Bester, Robert Spark, Dom Lawlor, Tom Patterson, Barry Hall and Andrew Spriggs to their respective teams and wish them well during the season.

Mark Hammer Grand Final 2014

This years Club Championship was taken out by Graham Toll who, in a masterful display defeated Glenn Purdy. The win now places Graham on the Honor Board alongside his son Shane as winners of the Championship. Graham had a tough draw and worked his way through to the final where he was victorious. Well done to Graham and all involved.

Grand Final Club Championships 29th May 2014

Tonight, the Grand Final of the Glenn Purdy Club Championship will be played between Josh Thompson and Glenn Purdy. It promises to be a great night, the match being played over a best of 5 frames. The action starts at 7.30 pm, and all members are encouraged to attend and support the players. Good luck to both men

Table Recovering

Thanks to the City of Greater Bendigo and Snooker City Ballarat, we have been able to recloth our tables in time for billiards season. The tables are beautiful to play on and care must be taken to ensure they remain in pristine condition for as long as possible.

AGM

Following last Friday nights AGM, Dale Gifford was elected as Club President. Apart from being an accomplished player, Dale is a passionate member of the club and will do a great job. Glenn Purdy is Vice President again, and Chris Elston retained the secretary role. Dale and Stan Cripps will share the treasurer role. Mick Crennan received a Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding contribution to the club.

New Long Rests and Equipment

The new long equipment is in the club and ready for use. The long cues have a fine 10mm tip which will be great to use, Thanks to Empowering Eaglehawk and Michael from Sharp Snooker.

Stuart Bingham

Last Sunday night the club was treated to a visit by world number 7, and inaugural Goldfields Open winner Stuart Bingham. Stuart was more than happy not only to discuss snooker with the club members, but to also have 3 frames, playing Dave Worthington, Andrew Fairweather and Chris Elston. I must thank both Stuart and Colin Bell for the night, we were certainly fortunate to have people of such esteem in world snooker visit our club.

Ian Chappell

Last Sunday we were fortunate to Australian Cricket great Ian Chappell visit our club for a game. Mr Chappell enjoyed a game of snooker against club members Selwyn Henning and John Zhang, who enjoyed a game against a true ledgend of Australian sport.

Goldfields Open drivers

A big thank you to John Zhang, Karen Engi, Noel Murphy, Chris Elston and Peter Bovell for volunteering as drivers for the Goldfields Open. It is much appreciated by both the club and IMG.

New Members

The club would like to announce new members Danial Sutherland, Peter Bovell and John Zhang, all of whom are enjoying playing in the Winter Billiards season. Anyone interested in joining the club can contact Phil on 0407 307 117 to make arrangements to do so.

Empowering Eaglehawk

A heartfelt thank you to Empowering Eaglehawk and the Bendigo bank Eaglehawk branch for a grant of $1500 for new equipment and a social function to try to attract new members and re-engage old members. The generous support will be of great assistance to the club and is much appreciated.

Eaglehawk Blue B grade snooker champions 2013

Congratulations to Eaglehawk Blue on defeating Golden Square Black to win the B grade snooker championship this year. the team of Gary Walsh, Scott Rawlings, Dan Sutherland, Phil Gouch proved too strong on the night. Also Josh Thompson who missed the final due to his honeymoon and John Zhang need to be acknowledged for their contribution to the team.

Glenn Purdy 2013

Well done to Shane Toll for winning the Glenn Purdy club championship this year, defeating Glenn Purdy in the Grand Final. The win means that Shane is currently the club champion in both Billiards and Snooker, which is a great achievement.

Mark Hammer Memorial Championship

Congratulations are in order for Shane Toll for his win in the Mark Hammer Memorial Club Billiards Championship, with his win over Bernard Keogh in the final. In a high standard match, Shane and Bernard played a high standard match in front of a good crowd inluding Mark's wife Deb. Shane ow joins two time winner Selwyn Henning and Paul Taylor on the honor board in display in the clubroom wall.

Mark Hammer Memorial Grand Final

Thursday night sees the playing of the Mark Hammer Memorial Club Billiards Championship, between Shane Toll and Bernard Keogh. Good luck to both players, and hopefully members will attend to support the players.

Congrats Eaglehawk Red

Congratulations to the Eaglehawk Red B Grade Billiard team on there victory tonight over Eaglehawk Blue. The best team won, and it continued the great form of club members, Gary Walsh, Scott Rawlings, Christopher Elston, Jason Henning and Andrew Fairweather. The game was played in great spirits and was well supported by Golden Square, Sandhurst, VRI and Castlemaine members. The quality of play and the excellence of players in the BBSA in their attendance tonight show that the game and the sportsmanship in the region to be of the highest quality.

Eaglehawk welcomes Dale Gifford

The Eaglehawk Billiards and Snooker Club is proud and excited to announce that "young gun" Dale Gifford will be playing for Eaglehawk Blue A grade team in the upcoming snooker season. Dale, along with Chris Elston and Jason Henning will join club legend Glenn Purdy in what should prove to be an exciting team in the Bendigo Billiards and Snooker Association snooker season.
